ANNOUNCEMENT: Pinoy Food Festival & Thailand Trade Show

June 17, 2011

Some announcements for Jakarta dwellers this weekend! Millenium Hotel is currently having a Pinoy/Filipino Food Festival from June 14 – 26 and the Thailand Trade Show is open to the public on June 18-19. More details after the jump!

Regrets on the image, since I’m a bit in a hurry and had no time to edit the photo sent to me by Millenium Hotel. This year we were invited to the launch of this food fest and here are some of the dishes I enjoyed:
  • Balut (flown in from Manila)
  • Lumpiang Ubud
  • Bulalo Soup
  • Garlic Rice
  • Bistek Tagalog
  • Danggit
  • Okoy
  • Halo-halo (sayang walang ice cream!)
  • Palitaw

I was told, that not all the dishes will be available on each day because they cycle them. Feel free to get in touch with Millenium Hotel to find out what the menu for the next day is. Their contact details are in the image above. Oh and the balut was only available for opening night – lucky us! =) So if you miss Pinoy food or you are curious to see what Filipino food is like, head over to Millenium Hotel for lunch or dinner (except on Sundays).

The first thing I asked was if there was balut and the restaurant manager gamely distributed warm balut (fertilized duck embryo that is boiled alive and eaten in the shell) in a basket to each table. I got TD’s share because he doesn’t eat balut. It’s definitely an aquired taste and not for the faint-hearted! Because you can see the partly formed baby duckling. I only eat the yolk and the soup with some salt, because sometimes the duck embryo already has feathers, beak and eyes. Eeeep. =P

My tongue was celebrating as I had my first taste of Bulalo Soup with buttery bone marrow, soft beef and veggies! For this alone I wanna go back to the food fest! They haven’t emailed me the schedule though so I don’t know when they will have it. Oh and that danggit (small flat dried fish) was heaven! I love dried fish but I find that the dried fish here is stinkier than normal (usually this means that the fishes were dried when they were no longer fresh. So bring tuyo or dried fish from Manila.

Also check out the Filipino art exhibit in conjunction with the food festival at the lobby of MIllenium Hotel. You’ll see some of Tita Noreens paintings!

Yesterday I was forwarded an invite from Office of Commercial Affairs of the Royal Thai Embassy  to attend the Thailand Trade Show. Details as follows:
Thailand Trade Show 2011
Venue : Jakarta Convention Center, Assembly Hall
Date : 18-19 June 2011.
According to my Thai friend, who checked it out already, things are all high quality and well selected from many producers. She said it’s worth going and that there are good Thai food too. If only for the food, I’m going to ask TD if we can drop by on Sunday. =D It is advisable as well because better deals are to be had, as everything must go! =O

So if you like Thai products and food, go and check it out! And feel free to invite your family and friends to the event too.

Enjoy your weekend everyone!
