BALI TOURIST TRAP: Flapjaks Brunch

April 26, 2012

Someone mentioned to us that Flapjaks had yummy pancakes and since it was walking distance from our hotel  in Sanur – AND we were ravenous after waking up late we decided to try it out. The interiors were really confusing (It felt bi-polar to me!) because apparently it was a sport bar  (called Stadium) / pancake house / gelato bar. It didn’t bode well for us because when we got there at about 1030 am they were still closed! What kind of place serves pancakes (to me this is classified as breakfast food) but doesn’t open for breakfast?!? It opens at 11 am. We were also dying from the heat… it had Acs inside but there are no walls to keep the cool air in. I think this was the main thing that turned me off – the heat was so uncomfortable! These life-sized basketball mannequins were unnerving – I caught TD staring as I took pictures of the interiors. As a sports bar it was okay but as a pancake/gelato place it’s tacky. The drinks were yummy but the food was just okay. The pancakes were not great, the ribs weren’t that good and the corn wasn’t the sweet kind, but we did enjoy the buffalo wings. Based on how the pictures came out at least presentation was good!

The pancakes aren’t good (or fluffy) enough for us to come back for brunch/breakfast ever. There is a lot of GREAT food to be had in Bali so if a resto is just okay or above average, there is no point in going back. I’d rather try a new resto that’s highly recommended. Also this was the day after that  AMAZING breakfast at The Porch so we had really high expectations. =P

For beers at night, when it’s cooler, I might consider going back if we want to watch a football game.
