One weekend we trecked out to Boxhagener Platz to check out one of Berlin’s many Flea markets. Brunch is a Sunday ritual for Berliners so TD made sure to check on some affordable places to have a brunch buffet. So I’ll be writing about our Sunday brunch at Macondo too.
From the station, it is a bit of a walk to Boxhagener Platz, but a pleasant one on a beautiful summer day.

CafeS surround Boxhagener Platz and one is spoilt for choice.
On that Sunday morning, we were looking for a cheap brunch, because we had just spent our budget on some IKEA furniture that we needed. TD did some research and found that Macondo, a reading cafe, has a famous 5 Euro Latin American Brunch. At that time, we couldn’t careless about the taste or ambiance – something to fill our bellies would suffice and you can’t go wrong with a €5 Buffet Brunch!
Trendy vintage furniture lent the place some charm.
Unfortunately we were a bit late so there was slim pickings on the buffet. They had no plans of refilling the buffet either. It doens’t look appetising, but it wasn’t so bad. Not fantastic either.
We got exactly what we were looking for, cheap eats. The coffee was okay though and I can see why Macondo markets itself as a reading cafe. As a cafe, it looks like a nice artsy place to hang and read a book.
I wouldn’t come back for the food though. There are many more cheap buffets in Berlin with much better food.
