BERLIN FINDS: Dong Xuan Center

October 29, 2014

As an Asian in Berlin, Dong Xuan Center is a good place to know about for Asian shopping and food fix.  It s composed of several halls that are crammed full of Asia-made products. I can’t say they are high quality, but there are several reasons I think this Vietnamese Market is worth going to all the way in Mitte for. image via

1. Authentic Vietnamese food. Seriously yummy and cheap. The Bun Cha was amaaaaazing. Wrap some pork BBQ, noodles and herbs in lettuce and dunk into that sweet-salty-tangy Nuoc Cham sauce – HEAVEN!Dong-Xuan-Berlin-005 Dong-Xuan-Berlin-004

2. Berlin souvenirs at a fraction of the price of touristy stores. These are the same keychains, bags, paperweights that you see in the stores in Ku’damm or Potsdammer plats but sold at a much lower price. For example the Berlin bags which are sold for 15 Euros can be had for around 8.50 if purchased in quantity. It figures because they are probably made in Asia. And many of the store owners source their goods from Dong Xuan. image via

3. Cheap haircuts and manicures. I’ve never tried it, but I want to give it a try sometime. I wasn’t so encouraged by the photos though haha. Dong-Xuan-Berlin

4. Asian food products. Here I found many Filipino products, like Datu Puti Vinegar. They also have a lot of Asian vegetables and at cheaper prices than other Asian Supermarkets. image viastilinberlin-dong-xuan

I find it fascinating to see so many Asians in one place in Germany (yes even more than Thai park). Check out the ads that they place in their bullet in boards, all in Vietnamese.

We sorta went crazy over the hats last summer.

Hi Didi, there are many Vietnames in Berlin because they were guest workers after the war to help rebuild. They ended up staying with their families in Berlin.

Yes I bought Datu Puti suka, because adobo is just not the same without Filipino vinegar!
