Our friend was in town for an overnight business trip so we spent a wonderful Sunday afternoon hanging out with him and exploring places in Berlin that we’ve never been to before. We met up for brunch at his favorite Cafe in town, Cafe Berio, which is supposedly a gay/lesbian landmark for more than 50 years and it’s popular for after-party brunch and people watching.
We enjoyed the food and the friendly service of Erna. The atmosphere is very relaxed so don’t eat here if you are in a hurry.
TD enjoyed the tagliatelle with chicken and caramelized walnuts – the combination of sweet and savoury was perfectly delicious!
I had the cheese platter which came with a basket of bread, soft-boiled egg, jam, honey, bell pepper cream and a generous amount of delicious cheeses. This portion is so massive.. I couldn’t even finish it. Pretty good value for the price! I’d recommend this to share if you are not a big German dude haha!
The bread was crunchy outside but nice and soft inside. Perfect!
Erna was lovely enough to pose for a picture with me. Isn’t she a tall drink of water? She was so sweet and kind.
We decided to eat inside because we didn’t want our food to get cold fast. However I can totally see how fun it would be to people watch while having coffee outside. I liked the beachy art that hung on the walls – I regret not asking about it. There is a huge selection of magazines on the walls to peruse if you are eating solo, unfortunately I wasn’t able to check if there were English options.
