I was so lucky to be taken on a private tour of the historic Berlin Zoo in 2014 as a member of the Willkommen in Berlin, a club for diplomat’s spouses based in Berlin. However TD never had the chance to visit the Zoo, so it was always my hope that I could take him & DiploBaby to the oldest zoo in Germany one day.

During our vacation this July 2022, I was so excited to finally go with them & our friends Alex & Tess.

There is no parking in the Zoo so it’s good to take public transport or park in Bikini Berlin, like we did.

The BERLIN ZOO doesn’t have one of the most comprehensive collection of animals in the world, but it is also landscaped beautifully. It’s nice just even sitting to admire the flowers & trees.

Lion snoozing in the heat

They also have an amazing playground for kids!

I recommend going the whole day if you want to be relaxed & let kids play to their hearts content. We only had half the day & it was closing at 6pm so DiploBaby couldn’t say so long in the playground.

This zoo was also bombed during the war & the caves provided shelter for some of the animals.

The seals were really fun to watch. I’ll have to do a reel for them. This is a cute baby seal.

I love seeing the different themes in Berlin Zoo!

Natuwa sa manok! LOL! (Happy to see a chicken!)

Wetting his hair to cool off. Be sure to put on high SPF sunblock when you go. And bring fans, waterbottles & hats!

Cows make me think of Switzerland

The PETTING ZOO!

Follow the rules!

Oh and avoid stepping on their poop!

The WORLD OF BIRDS!

How big are you? DiploBaby is as big as this Pelikan.

You can also see the birds from the exterior.

Sad to see that their Polar Bear has died. During my visit to the Berlin Zoo in 2014 I talked to some of the zoo keepers & they said that of course they are sad to keep animals captive… because animals are meant to be free in their natural habitat, but because of human activities, it’s safer for the animals to be in zoos so zoo keepers can help them mate & continue the species.

Our feet are, according to Alex & Tess, “FußTartar!” Had to sit & rest them!

This time we weren’t lucky to have a clear view of the hippos, but this is a cool brass statue of one.

You know what’s crazy? There was a lot of species that are indigenous to the Philippines in the Berlin Zoo. It was so interesting for us!

Another fancy structure for the animals.

I took more videos than pictures in the Panda enclosure.

Red Panda

Majestic lions

It’s so beautiful to see Berlin as the background of the Zoo!

Of course, we couldn’t exit without passing by the gift shop which had a dizzying amount of items.

They also have a gold section. I had very good self control LOL!

We usually allow DiploBaby to get one small thing. This time it was BIO gummy bears.

What a wonderful day spent with friends who are family.

I did a reel to show GUSTO then & now! I hope you enjoy seeing how much DiploBaby has grown! Tap on the reel to pause & read the subtitles!
