Last weekend, our Thai friends S and B invited us to do brunch with them at Koi Cafe Gallery in Kemang. It’s one of the more fashionable places for expats to have brunch here in Jakarta.
We needed to catch up and also spend more time with B since she was going back to Thailand. B is one of the first girls I met in Jakarta last year and she will be the first one to go. Sad. It’s one of the downsides of living the diplomatic life, making friends and seeing them go after such a short time! =( At least we’ve added another good memory…a wonderful brunch with friends! (I wasn’t able to get the exact names and prices of the dishes because we were more focused on catching up – next time I promise!)
Koi is now at a new BIGGER location in Kemang Raya (It now has 3 floors!) to better accommodate all the customers and show-off their furniture and decor! (Address and contact details at the bottom)
How did our third attempt at Koi go?

We ordered an extra side of sautéed mushrooms and fries (not pictured). I love their fat fries, which were perfectly salty and crunchy.

S ordered the Baked Mussels (served with a side of fries) - an interesting choice and combination for brunch!

Our friend B ordered the most popular brunch dish: Eggs Florentine with smoked salmon. Poached eggs and sautéed spinach on toast with hollandaise sauce.
Koi is known for their Eggs Benedict, however for me it pales in comparison to the Eggs Benedict of Social House so I refrain from ordering it at Koi. (Hubby and I agree that for us Social House is The Best Brunch in Jakarta, if only for their Eggs Benedict!)

I can't remember what my husband's order was called. The name is as forgettable as the dish. Chicken sausages, eggs, toasted, sautéed mushrooms and spinach. We wont be ordering this ever again.

Koi Breakfast Special (scrambled eggs with 2 camembert slices, and home fries). A new brunch favorite of mine!
This dish was wonderful. The scrambled eggs were done just right, the puff pastry was light and not oily, and they were generous with their serving of camembert cheese. Yummmmm….
The ambiance of Koi is what makes it a great dining experience. It’s casual, laid back and so very chic!
After lunch we spent time exploring their furniture store on the second floor. Their friendly staff, Ilya, was nice enough to show us around and answer all our inquiries. They have amazing high-end, export quality modern furniture which are a bit too massive for our condo but the designs are wonderful and they use only the best quality “recycled” or old teakwood. You only have to feel them to know that they are solid and will last you a lifetime. I also love their modern but rustic decor!
We wandered into the 3 floor as well to check out their private function area. It’s a lovely massive space great for parties of 100-200 people, with a verandah dining area for smokers. Good to know!

Ahhhhhh. Love Eggs Benedict. We definitely need to do this when we visited you… SOON, I hope. 🙂
We gotta do this and you also must try the eggs benedict in Social House! Then you can give me your verdict!
Thanks for leaving me a comment on my Project KOI post! I’m sorry for taking so long to write you back. We’ve been traveling in Vietnam, so I haven’t been able to write back when I saw the comment. You can see the photos I’ve taken inside the restaurant to compare here (http://chuzailiving.wordpress.com/2010/09/26/koi-restaurant-galler-%E2%98%86-new-location/), but inside just does not have enough light. I took a table outside of KOI for the photo shoot to get more natural light.
