Trying to catch up on posts about Bali. I have a backlog of photos from TWO trips (Eeeep!). These are from our first trip there, and taken with a point and shoot so please forgive the quality.
TD knows that breakfast is my favorite meal of the day and as complete newbies to Indonesian and Bali consulted a lonely planet book for recommendations on breakfast as the cheap hotel we stayed in didn’t have very good breakfast (Harris Hotel). That’s how we found ourselves in The Balcony Restaurant and Bar.
It’s a bit off the main road in Kuta, so we had to walk. And that sweat was rewarded by the cool breeze in the literal Balcony, which is located in the second floor.
It’s too bad I didn’t get to take pictures of the fun decor! Which is a good an excuse as any to come back with my SLR to The Balcony next time we are in Bali. =P Very cool surfboards on the ceiling and signed pictures of pro surfers all over the place! I was feelin’ the surfer vibe and totally reminiscing over my super fun surfing years. I swear in an alternative universe I would be a bohemian, back-packing, fire-dancing, DJ spinning surfer chick. Alas life is funny and I turned into a cupcake-baking, sewing machine-wielding diplomatic wife (with a hidden bohemian side). LOL.

Surfer’s Breakfast Rp. 40.000++ (Country bread or toast, butter, jam 2 eggs any style, crispy bacon and Neuenberger sausage served with grilled tomato, with free juice and coffee/tea)
After a couple of months in Jakarta and still figuring out where to find “real” (streaky) bacon, we were ecstatic to be served the real deal! Many establishments in Jakarta serve only beef bacon and at that time we could only find bacon that reminds us of Canadian bacon in Carrefour supermarket. (Thank God we found Grand Lucky!) So in Bali, which is not predominantly non-Muslim, we enjoy as much good cuts of pork as we can!
If I am not mistaken, TD had the Uluwatu Peak Rp. 44.000++ which is Swiss Roesti (hashbrown) with bacon and onion, 2 eggs on top served with Neuenberger sausage and mustard. He had to help me with the toast and sausage though, because the serving was too big for me.
Next time we’re in Bali I wanna check this place out at night too. It seems to be a pretty happenin’ bar based on the party pics we saw.
