MANILA EATS: Cafe Mediterranean

May 1, 2010

After the big lunch at Cafe Juanita and shopping at Market! Market! at The Fort, my mother-in-law and I were in the mood for something light. So we shared soup and a pizza at The Cafe Med in Rockwell. This is one of our all-time favorites, perfect for a quick bite while you’re in the mall. It’s not expensive but the quality of the food is good and the ingredients are fresh. We love their gyros, kofta dishes, soups and pizzas.

The Roasted Vegetable Soup is pureed grilled eggplant, tomatoes, zucchini & garbanzos. It's a hearty soup that comes in a cup (Php 100) or bowl (Php 180). This pic is my split of the bowl. It had a bit of a kick because there was a lot freshly ground black pepper - just the way I like it.

My hubby and I usually order Soupe au Pistou, which are chopped (not pureed) vegetable soup (potatoes, carrots, string beans, broccoli, etc.) with basil pesto and Parmesan cheese.  But we couldn’t order this because my mother-in-law is on a low carb diet, so the doctors wouldn’t be pleased with the potatoes in the soup =P But both soups are equally good!

It was our first time to order the Mediterranea Pizza and we were really happy =) It went wonderfully with the soup. Sun-dried tomatoes, black olives, grilled eggplant & zucchini, anchovies. The thinly grilled eggplant and zucchini were big but thinly sliced and added that great smokey flavor that I love.
