JAKARTA BAR: Cork and Screw

February 16, 2011

Finally went to Cork & Screw with friends over the holidays. It’s a popular bar located in Plaza Indonesia Mall.

Cork & Screw Bar wide selection

The wide selection

We sat by the bar

The Bar

Cork & Screw By the carafe

By the carafe

We decided to order a carafe because the cocktails are Rp 105,000 per glass – that’s about 10 USD or 500 pesos without the 21% tax and service charge! CRAZY!  In Manila that would buy you 3-4 cocktails depending on where you are drinking! A carafe is IDR 250,000 but as usual in most of the bars here, there is more fruit than alcohol. It’s feels more like a health drink haha!

Cork & Screw Sangria

Sangria Carafe

The Sangria was strong, but seriously it had too much fruit in it! Which obviously means that there is less to drink! Oh well… this is the reason that TD and I don’t go out to drink as much as we did in Manila… the sin tax makes it waaaay too expensive!

I have to say though, that they are so much more creative with their presentation here. I guess they should be! (Considering it’s $10++ a pop !) It’s a good place to take guest for a few drinks since it is quite an experience!

Don't you just love the creative presentation?

Cotton Candy Martini

I love the ceremony that accompanies this drink!

The waiter pours the liquid slowly till the cotton candy completely dissolves into the drink. My friend was pleasantly surprised that the drink wasn’t too sweet.

Nice photos, DiploWife!!! I heard that Cork and Screw is the place to get wine, but I didn’t realize how steep the prices of their cocktails are! It’s quite a luxury to obtain any type of alcohol in this country except for beer (and I don’t drink beer! aaaah!). I guess I should be thankful that restaurants even serve alcohol in this country, but I’m just constantly astonished by their prices. I feel like I’m in Manhattan, Tokyo or Singapore when I hear the price. They are good looking cocktails though!

It’s crazy isn’t it??? That’s why we rarely go drinking out! It’s just so crazy that a drink in some of these places is priced close to the A BOTTLE of Absolut Vodka in Duty Free! You’re totally right though… we should look at the bright side and just be thankful that they even serve alcohol. =P

Really? The drink costs as much as a bottle of Absolute Vodka in Duty Free? That’s unbelievable. I wish I could drink beer since beer is not expensive.

Yup almost as expensive as a bottle. most cocktails in nice bars are 100++. However a Black can set you back 140++! A bottle of 750ml Absolute is about $20. Crazy right???
