DiaLoGue Shop Artspace and Cafe

March 19, 2012

I’ve been meaning to take pictures of Dia.Lo.Gue Artspace / Shop / Cafe ever since I saw an amzing paper exhibit there last year. I’ve always just been super super busy! I finally had an excuse to go there when I met up with Bea, a fellow Filipino and a newbie in the Jakarta scene. It was my first time to try the coffee shop too.

The name’s a clever pun. DIA.LO.GUE separately means DIA = he/she. LO = you. GUE = I. LO and GUE being a Jakartan slang and used only among close friends.

It’s around the bend when you turn left from Kemang Raya onto Kemang Selatan. You gotta pay attention or you might miss it. It has a small facade but it’s quite big inside. And the space is just wonderful. Gorgeously interiored… it is an inspiring and artistic space!

This time they had an exhibit of photos. I love how they arranged it in interesting ways. But I still cannot forget the paper exhibit that they had the first time I ever went. I saw works of art which I could hardly believe was paper! How I regret not taking pictures of that – I was in such awe and wonder! It was crazy good. I come back to Dia.Lo.Gue a couple of times and  every single time I am struck with wonder.
The outdoor area in the back is amazing. Beautiful seating for some tea while being surrounded by a couple of art installations. Even the floating stairs is a work of art! In the middle of the gallery and the cafe, there is also a gorgeous skylight with a water feature – such a soothing space.

The store in front is an eclectic mix of fashion, decor, books and art that show off how diverse and creative Indonesians are, and how rich they are in culture.  Most of the items are locally made but there are also e few specialty imported items that I feel are sold at reasonable prices and super cute!

For coffee I had an iced latte and Bea had a cappucino while sharing a homemade carrot cake which was yummy and moist. I definitely have to go back with TD to soak in the art and try their main dishes which are very reasonably priced! You can click on the thumbnails below to enlarge the photos of their menu. Thanks for coffee Bea, I truly enjoyed meeting you and many more meet-ups to come! Welcome to Jakarta! =)

Hi, DiploWife! Thanks for linking my blog to your post!! I love the photos you posted. They made me feel like I just visited Dia.lo.gue. I haven’t been out there in a while, so I realized that I needed to do that. I have to check out the new items in the store.

    Hi there,
Just wondering, when you took these photos, did you have to ask for their permission first?

Hi Zara, definitely! Most places here are pretty cool with it. I usually ask for the manager, present my calling card and explain the concept of my blog. I emailed DiaLoGue ahead and scheduled the shoot before I came.
