One of the things I noticed in the recent dinner party we hosted was that I didn’t know where to place the serving spoons while the lids on the different dishes were on (to keep them warm). I remembered the super cute serving spoon rest that my best friend had for her rice paddle or rice scoop. What a practical idea! The serving spoon rest kept food off the table, while allowing her to keep the rice covered so that it stays nice & piping hot (best way to have rice!).
SERVING SPOON RESTS
It’s always been on the back of my mind but I’ve never seen anything in like it here in Jakarta. When I was at one of my favorite homeward stores in Manila called DIMENSIONE (owned by the group of Bench/Filipino Chinese Tycoon, Ben Chan) I was delighted to find this Philippine made porcelain spoon rest. The best part about it is it was only Php120 each (about IDR 25,000 or USD 2.8) – isn’t that crazy for this design & quality? I got 6pcs initially but I am thinking of getting more for bigger dinner parties. It’s always good to have a couple of extra pieces of breakable items. =P
I told the DIMENSIONE staff to wrap it well since I was bringing to Jakarta & they obliged. All 6 of them survived their journey in check-in luggage! YAY!
MUJI LADLE STAND
Another useful item I found for entertaining is the Muji porcelain ladle stand + Muji stainless steel ladle. The ladle stand is basically a small ceramic dish with a lip on one side to keep the ladle standing while it’s not being used. Can be used in the kitchen or on the buffet table. This performs the same functions above, but for serving soup or stews. I love the simple, modern design since I am always drawn to sleek designs.
I got these in Muji Manila Philippines last December 2011 because I find that imported products are usually more expensive to buy in Jakarta (higher import taxes I think). But it should also be available in Muji Jakarta.
I love these two shopping finds in the Philippines because they different from the traditional ladle stands or spoon rests which usually look like below. The designs of my finds I feel are simplified & minimal – no unneeded parts, the designs takes up less visual & physical space. Simpler is always better for me. Here are other examples of spoon rests that I found online…
