For me a Kerzenkarussell or candle-carousel is like a small, edited and modern version of a Christmas Pyramid. I find both these the candle-powered carousels so pretty and enchanting that I wanted to do a post on them. Because the elaborate, wooden Christmas Pyramid doesn’t go with my Diplo Home style, I’ve been looking for a modern version. Good thing I found Casa Millefiori’s Carosello Kerzenkarussell – it’s so delicate, lovely and GOLD. Perfect!
Christmas Pyramids
I’ve been curious about Christmas Pyramids ever since I saw one in my mother-in-law’s home 7 years ago. At that time I didn’t even know what it was called, and it looked something like below. (photo via) Imagine a multi-tiered and more elaborate version. I can stare at it for ages.
A Christmas pyramid (German: Weihnachtspyramide) is a Christmas decoration that has its roots in the Erzgebirge (Ore Mountains) of Germany but has become popular throughout the country. It is suggested that the Christmas pyramid is a predecessor of the Christmas tree… …It is a kind of carousel with several levels, some depicting Christian motifs such as angels or manger scenes, and others with more secular motifs such as mountain-folk, forests, and other scenes from the everyday life of people in the Erzgebirge. The spinning motion of the pyramids is traditionally achieved with the help of candles whose rising heat spins a propeller above. Christmas pyramids serve a mainly decorative purpose today, filling children and adults alike with holiday cheer.
I didn’t realise the German origins until I saw a life-sized Christmas Pyramid in the Schloss Charlottenburg Weihnachtsmarkt below.
Christmas Candle Carousel
I placed it together with a vase of random Christmas decor on a DIY decorative Frame Tray that I made on the fly. Every night, I sit on my sofa enjoying our Christmas tree or Weihnachtsbaum and the twirling of the Carosello Candle Carousel.
Check out the video of my Carosello candle carousel in twirling action HERE.
Where to buy:
It was 6.50 € and came with 2 tea light candles. I found it in a Schloss Charlottenburg Christmas Market stall. The stall was right before the children’s rides, beside the entrance of a restaurant in the Schloss. You can also purchase it on their website or any of the Christmas Markets in the link below. It is available in different colours and designs, which you can also find on their website.
You can also order them easily on Amazon here.
