BALI BITES: Radja Cafe Ikan Bakar

April 1, 2010

After the Kecak Dance we went back to Jimbaran bay, but this time to the southern cluster on Jalan Four Seasons. We came prepared, with a resto recommended by E (who’s practically indonesian) and instructions to order everything grilled. Best decision ever.

Radja Cafe Table 63I liked the ambiance of this cluster SO much better. It didn’t feel isolated like Ganesha Cafe the night before, which was at the northern part of Jimbaran Bay, near the fish market (this accounts for the fishy smell I was talking about). Again, it smelled better. There was a good crowd, although mostly tourists. And there was a cute strings band that played latino/spanish music. If you wanna request for music, prepare tip beforehand. The hubby and I were just so hungry that we had to decline. Imagine having to get money out of your wallet, and breaking the momentum of digging into the crabs? No way!

Grilled squid and complimentary peanuts & grilled potatoes. The grilled squid was good and cooked just right, tender and moist not rubbery and dry. But I think next time I’ll try the spicy grilled clams.Radja Cafe complimentary peanuts, grilled potates and grilled squid

1/2 Kilo crab, 1/2 Kilo King Prawns & 1/2 Kilo squid. All grilled perfectly. But the flavor of the prawns and crab outshone the squid. I wonder what spices they used to make it so flavorful? This meal was outstanding. The complimentary garlic kangkong was good as well. Fruits for dessert were complimentary too.

Grilled King Prawns – now that looks like a proper 1/2 Kilo!

Radja Cafe Grilled King Prawns - now that's 1/2 Kilo!

We were really happy with this meal. The food was cooked better. And we felt that the weighing scales were more accurate this time around. And we paid only half of what we paid for at Ganesha Cafe. That’s about Rp 250,000 with drinks, taxes and service charge included, versus the Rp 500,000 we paid for an “okay” meal the night before!

The only downside was that the Sambal Butter Corn was not as good today. I wonder why? A newbie corn vendor perhaps? My husband was not the one who bought it this time. One of the waiters of Radja Cafe volunteered to get them  for us.

On our way out we took a pic with the fresh catch. This is where you pick out your seafood and bargain on the price per Kilo.Radja Cafe "Market"

Here’s another blog that has better pics of the grilled food, but even she was complaining of the dark lighting conditions: Mochachocolate Rita. It’s a different resto, but you get the idea.

You’re welcome. You can also try Cafe Menega, which is our very favorite in Jimbaran Bay. Enjoy!
