We missed going out & eating out a lot during the longest lockdown in the world so when we could finally eat out we chose a restaurant that:
- we knew wouldn’t be crowded
- is expensive enough to apply protocols
- has an outdoor al fresco dining area
That’s why we chose Blackbird. They gave paperbags where we could store our masks while eating. I thought that was thoughtful.
BLACKBIRD AT THE NIELSON TOWER
My husband booked an early dinner in their al fresco area so that there wouldn’t be too many people yet. We made sure they allowed kids & seniors coz we were going with the in-laws.
You can tell that we are just so happy to be out!
DID YOU KNOW?
That the Nielsen Tower was once the very first commercial airport in the Philippines. They beautifully refurbished it while maintaining the original Art Deco design.
In July 1937, Nielson Airport was inaugurated, with a terminal building and control tower designed to resemble an airplane from a bird’s eye view. What are now Ayala Avenue and Paseo de Roxas were once the runways. When Philippine Air Lines Inc. was established in 1941, their first flight departed from Nielson Airport for Baguio carrying nine passengers onboard a Beechcraft Model 18.– BLACKBIRD.COM
POMELO & PRAWN SALAD
CHICKEN SATE with peanut sauce, chili pepper flakes & pickles
PRAWNS wrapped in crispy noodles
CRISPY CATFISH SALAD
A special treat for DiploBaby because he is not usually allowed dessert at night, except for fruits. We asked for Vanilla Ice Cream but of course, because it’s Blackbird, they made it extra. We happily shared it with him because the serving is huge.
You might notice that what we ordered is heavy on Thai food. We ordered off THE MENU because PEOPLE’S PALACE was under renovation, so the chef was working at BLACKBIRD at that time. How lucky were we???
BLACKBIRD is one of my highly recommended places to eat in Manila not just because of the delicious food & amazing service but also because of how beautiful it is inside & out. If you are in Manila, do not miss this culinary & design experience!
