This was a hard transition for me, but I am happy I found some better alternatives on Amazon.* For those of you living in the Philippines, it’s so easy and stress-free to get exact products that you need, without leaving the comfort of your own home and overspending on transport, food and unplanned buys, by shipping via Shipping Cart. Best part about it is that the rates are door to door, inclusive of all taxes and fees.
Now, on to my life-changing finds: FOOD HUGGERS! They keep lemons, limes, onions, etc fresher longer.
You can also use them as lids, to replace those metal lids that eventually rust.
For larger bowls and food containers – even squares! – I use SILICONE STRETCH LIDS! A bonus, is that they are tidier to use than cling wrap.
These will not only save you money in the long run, but also will reduce single use plastics that are choking our oceans and becoming microplastics that get into our food supply, are harming our health.
For a household 4-6 people, I initially got one pack each, but later on realized it’s better to start with at least 2 packs of each.
The truth is, I am sure Yaya tries to sneak in a box of cling-wrap into the groceries once in a while, but I always remind her that we need to find AND USE better alternatives to single-use plastics. I send her videos that that have helped open my mind to this, because if we are to do better as a household, everyone has to be on board, right?
It took me a long time to convince Yaya, to ditch normal dishwashing liquid, but by showing her how much more effective this biodegradable dishwashing soap was even for the dirtiest of pots, I was finally able to. I know I can do it with cling wrap too. It takes patience and really believing in the cause because these changes can be so hard when we are used to the convenience of single use plastic, but once our eyes are opened to how horrible it is for everyone in the planet, we can start to do better, once step – or choice – at a time.

WHERE TO BUY CLOTH COVERS:
For items purchased on Amazon I love using shipping cart to ship it the Philippines. It takes 1-2weeks for air-shipping and 2months for sea shipping but it’s so affordable. Cheaper than going to the mall for me because I end up paying for parking, then I get hungry and eat out and make unplanned purchases when I go to the mall in Manila.
Please feel free to share this if you think these reusable food savers are awesome!
