JAKARTA EATS: Soup Restaurant

January 3, 2014

I am totally missing the Chinese food in Jakarta. Jakarta has a big Chinese community and I learned to really appreciate Chinese food when we were based there. One of the memorable Chinese food I had was from Soup Restaurant. All the dishes we ordered were delicious and I recommend them.

I loved the sauce and mushrooms of the Po Cai and Enokitake in Oyster Sauce IDR 45.000. The veggies were a delicious accompaniment to our meal.

I am a big fan of soft shell crabs so their Cereal Soft Shell Crab IDR 70.000 was a hit. The yummy taste of crabs without the difficulty of pealing of the shell. The crunch of the seasoned fried cereal adds even more texture and flavour.

If you like  steamed Hainan Chicken then you will like the Samsui Chicken Large IDR 160.000 / Small 80.000. Best enjoyed with a little bit of chicken, cucumber, sauce and ginger dip with each bite.

I’ve never had olive fried rice so this was something new and a pleasant surprise. A little bit oily but the olive flavour is addictive. The Teochew Olive Rice IDR 35.000 comes with some fresh veggies that helps balance out the oiliness of the fried rice.

I love their Fried Noodles IDR 40.000 which softens up when mixed with the sauce. I like to eat it fast so there is still a bit of crunch to the noodles. The veggies were nice and garlicky.  YUM.

Besides the tasty  Chinese Cuisine I also liked the interiors. We went to the PX Pavilion location which is quieter than the other branches which are perpetually busy. My friends and I agree that the prices were quite reasonable and the servings generous.

Have you tried Soup Restaurant? Which dishes did you like best?

Never been to this restaurant. My favourite Chinese resto is Mandala which located around Santa. Have you tried it?

Hi Ailtje, I think I used to live near Santa. Is it Kebayoran Baru, but I never tried Mandala. I wish I knew about it!

This is my fav restaurant too, and averything you write here is so true. Yes their dishes are hits and never decrease in quality from the first time they opened until now, they must have such a good quality maintainance. I love to eat the samsui chicken which i would wraped it first with a layer of letuce (which came along with the dish) and then dipped in to the sauce. And oh I think u might forget to write about the SOUP! 😀 since the name of this restaurant is Soup Restaurant, they have many choices of them. Their famous soup are wintermelon soup and lotus soup, but you need to ask the waitress which one is available on that day since they would only cook one of them as they called it “soup of the day”. Btw your website is so informative and stunning, and i’m one of your new subscriber. Keep up the good work and anjoy your life, lovely! ;)) (i’m sorry for my bad grammar. Sending you much love from jakarta xoxo)

Dear Ellen, thank you for your lovely comment! Now that you mentioned it, why didn’t we order SOUP?!? Haha! I think maybe because we were feeling very warm that day. I wish I had the chance to try some of their soup though! And that samsui chicken sounds delicious. Thank you for following my blog. I hope to hear from you again!
