INACRAFT Fair

April 18, 2012

To excite you about the upcoming INACRAFT FAIR 2012, I’m writing about my finds at the INACRAFT FAIR 2011 which is the most massive fair in Jakarta I’ve ever attended – even more massive than anything I’ve seen in the Philippines even! (And I attend a lot of these!) We went for 2 days yet we didn’t even get to explore the entire thing. It was THAT massive!

CV. Mendong K Craft (MEKA work of art)

Each Rp 50,000/ USD 5 (Orig: Rp 60,000)

Factory: Jl. RTA. Prawira Adiningrat No. 23, RT 02, RW 01. Desa Kamulyan Manonjaya, Tasikmalaya 46197, West Java, Indonesia
Phone/fax: +62 265 380991

NOTE: Be wary of this supplier because though the boxes are lovely, I realized after using it that there were mites inside because a fine powder would form under the box. My furniture maker Danni had to burn it because if I gave it away to charity, the mites might also transfer to their books, clothes and other wooden objects in their homes. (Sad coz I even came up with cute labels for these boxes – click here to see)

This shop has it’s showroom at Sarina building in Jakarta Pusat. The great thing about it is you can reposition it depending on how you like it by changing the location of the support. This is made of solid teak. It was also the cheapest clock I ever bought in Jakarta (for some reason clocks are very expensive in Jakarta) at IDR 160,000.

Unfortunately I wasn’t able  to get the name of the maker  of this ring and this fossilized stone pendant. Sorry couldn’t write most of the prices because many of them are gifts. I like buying gifts at these fairs because I find so many more interesting stuff than the mall and at more reasonable prices.

Not pictured is the tatami mat (2.5m x 2m) we got for only Rp 270,000 or USD 27. The matt is for placing under the mattress incase my family visits and we might need to bust out an airbed. =P

The INACRAFT 2012 is coming up on April 25-29, 2012. 10 am – 9 pm at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), Jakarta Indonesia. Many of the popular shops that cater to expats join and sell their items at discounted prices especially for the the INACRAFT. Some give discount vouchers so you can visit their store & get a big discount on regular items.  It’s really so interesting to see all the many things they produce in Indonesia, which you would normally not find here because these items are for export. It’s also a great place for exporters to find suppliers!

Thank you for writing about this! I loved going to fairs like this in Manila, and I’m so happy to have discovered that they have them in Jakarta too.

I chanced upon your blog while looking through yahoo for Filipino groups in Jakarta. You are one gifted lady. I especially love the furniture. 🙂

Dear Jee, to be honest it depends on if you are doing it for business or pleasure. I think it’s worth it to go if you are looking for a supplier specifically in Indonesia, but as someone who is going there for personal reasons, I wouldn’t recommend it, you can find cheaper stuff in Vietnam, Thailand and the Philippines and of better quality. Several of the items I purchased I had to throw out because they had termites in them.

However for someone who was based in Jakarta, I found some cheap bargains in INACRAFT so it was good to go. But only because I found shopping in Jakarta generally expensive (compared to Manila, KL, Thailand, Vietnam) and had to find bargains and deals at a fair like INACRAFT. I wouldn’t buy a plane ticket just to go to the INACRAFT fair. This is just my opinion and I am sure others might have a different experience and opinion than me. I hope that this helps you and that you make the right decision for yourself. Thanks!

Every year I add a little bit more to my Halloween Every year I add a little bit more to my Halloween decor collection so it’s not so heavy on the wallet. I’m so happy with this year’s finds & make sure to carefully store them so they have many more years of use.

It was @diplobaby’s idea to add googly eyes to the bats. So we did it together! I love the one eyed bats 🦇 and I love it when we decorate together! Definitely one for the core memory banks! 👻🎃🤍

I was tickled pink coz people would pass by and take pics, stare or even tell me good job. 🎃 Halloween is really my favorite holiday!

What do you think of our Halloween prep this year?

#udwhalloween
I couldn’t stop laughing! It was still a little I couldn’t stop laughing! It was still a little too long for him this year but we sure got a kick from it.

DM me if you want to know where to order!

VILLAGE PUMPKIN CARVING EVENT Every year I look f VILLAGE PUMPKIN CARVING EVENT

Every year I look forward to this event for families in our village. We also invite our friends outside the village coz it’s so much fun for families. Parents and kids can come in costume. It’s done beside a fabulous park so kids can run around and play.

The pumpkins 🎃 might be overpriced (the bigger ones went from chf 18 last year to chf 23 this year) BUT it includes the free use of NIFTY CARVING TOOLS, waste disposal, clean up & cute decor that the organizers have provided.

We draw together. TD removes the guts. Then @diplobaby & i do the carving together with our son and it’s a controlled way of showing him how to use the tools in a safe way. Which is something I appreciate in Europe.

One year we tried pumpkin 🎃 carving at home and clean up was a totally nightmare. Never doing it again!

Then when kids and parents are are hungry we can buy food & drinks.

We go home with a carved pumpkin 🎃 & don’t have to do the clean up. The pumpkin guts are also turned into soup by the organizers.

It’s also a good way for parents to unwind, catch up while the kids play in the playground. We usually see our neighbors here too.

It’s a win win for everyone & it reduces unused waste. I love it so much!

We never did pumpkins before coz it would rot@so fast in Asia. But i the past 3 seasons of doing this I’ve learned so many tips and tricks for pumpkin 🎃 carving - especially how to prevent molds and insects. Let me know if you want me to do a separate post on that!

Hi guys it’s been a while since I’ve posted ab Hi guys it’s been a while since I’ve posted about our #DiploHome.

This is our BALCONY/TRASH SEGREGATION AREA.

Because we use it to entertain in SPRING & AUTUMN (too hot & too many insects in summer) I made sure that the trash segregation remains AESTHETIC by using white @ikeaschweiz SEGREGATION BINS.

So far SWITZERLAND TRASH SEGREGATION in our experience is even more complex than GERMANY but it has led to at least 50% RECYCLING rate which is pretty good, even though Germany still has the highest rate of recycling 66%

Let me know if you want to know more about how we manage trash in our village.
