JAKARTA EATS: Avorio Italian Restaurant

October 27, 2010

As I said in my interview with Mrs. O in her blog, Livin’ La Vida Lanka, it’s important for expat’s housewife to have  girl friends. I am lucky enough to have found a great set of girl friends who are also pinoy, (mostly) housewives and who have common interests and activities.

Assorted Bread for starters at Avorio Italian Restaurant Plaza Senayan

Assorted Bread for starters. Breads were soft and freshly baked.

We try to have lunch every week or 2 and also do family activities on the weekends with hubbies and kids – like BBQs, kiddie parties and go out to have drinks or watch a movie. We all sort of arrived around the same time (with some a just a year ahead) and have young families. It’s nice to have people to talk to about all the new experiences and I wouldn’t know what I would do without my fabulous friends here in Jakarta!

Mind you, these women are pretty hot mamas! So I was even more inspired to continue with my diet. I’ve no excuse, since I haven’t had kids. But 2 of these women were skinnier a week after giving birth than I’ve ever been my whole life. (Yoga everyday anyone?!?) Of course I had to order soup and salad! LOL!

Vellutata di funghi profumati al tartufo or Wild mushroom soup at Avorio Italian Restaurant

Vellutata di funghi profumati al tartufo or Wild mushroom cream soup with truffle foam and freshly cracked black pepper (Rp 45,000)

The soup was good, though not as fantastic as I was expecting. I still prefer my home-made one with recipe via Jamie Oliver. I would order it again just because I am a sucker for anything mushrooms, but would add a little salt.

Insalata di pere e bresaola con parmigiano e olio al tartufo bianco or air dried beef, parmesan and pear salad with walnut and white truffle oil in Avorio Italian Restaurant Plaza Senayan

The ENORMOUS Insalata di pere e bresaola con parmigiano e olio al tartufo bianco or air dried beef, parmesan and pear salad with walnut and white truffle oil (Rp 75,000)

Everyone else had pasta for mains. The ravioli looked good, a very generous portion and loads of parmesan cheese. I usually avoid ordering ravioli in Manila because the portions are so pathetic, it’s not worth the money you’re paying. They served the ravioli in the same kind of plate as my salad – which was huge!

The servings are massive so I was full even with the soup and salad. The interiors are nice, modern and sleek. Will bring my husband here to try the italian fare soon. I love discovering places with wonderful generous salads!
