MADRID BITES: Rodilla Sandwiches

April 14, 2014

Another quick but yummy bite in Madrid is Rodilla’s sandwiches. There are many Rodilla branches all over the city and they are known for their delicious cold sandwiches. They also have some warm options available. It is self-service so you line up at the counter, order and take your sandwich to a table.  You can probably have it for take away too.

My MIL’s favourite (and I can understand why) is the ensaladilla which is a tuna sandwich with the softest bread (below). I also enjoyed the toasted panini with jamon and arugula. Make sure to order on promotion because it can be overpriced for half a sandwich. The promotion we got came up to less than 12 € for 3 persons including drinks. Not too bad. It was very quick, delicious and a healthier option compared to McDonalds and other fast food.

You can get sandwiches with beer. How can you not love madrid? I remember TD telling me that in Madrid they also serve beer in McDonalds haha!

The Rodilla was on the way to El Corte Ingles in the city centre and it was so packed at around 7pm, which my MIL said is merienda time for the Spanish. We were looking for a light dinner.

i never actually took advantage of it, but i did like how many of the set *breakfast* menus there listed cerveza as one of your options, right along with coffee and orange juice. looks like you’re having a great time –what a fun city!

Hi E, it was a fantastic 7 days in Madrid. I loved their lifestyle and it’s hard to believe that despite eating 5x a day with a drink each time, that we lost weight and get even more fit haha! Any plans of coming to Europe?
