We always work up an appetite after sledding in St. Cergue & luckily there is a nice place that serves traditional Swiss fare, that we can simply walk to across the public parking lot, called Maison de Ville. It’s very typical to have heavy cheese-laden meals in the winter, like fondue, raclette, tartiflette, etc.

LATE LUNCH FEBRUARY 2023
After sledding with friends we headed to Maison de Ville for late lunch. It was about 2:45 so past the peak lunch hour. Luckily they don’t close between lunch and dinner like most restaurants in Switzerland. Maybe when it’s off-peak?
We were a big group of 11 people and we did not need to make a reservation. We got the same table we did last time with my in-laws – for dinner in December 2021.

I ordered the cold cuts and it was huge. I would say it’s for 3 or 4 people but it was easy to have it packed “pour importer” or for take away. I loved the dried beef & the pickles, but the cheese did not have much flavor for me.

Yaya B ordered a salad to split with TD so they don’t eat too much. This is pretty brilliant because the servings are huge.

TD split the Croûtes Au fromage with Yaya B. The dishes are typically Swiss and really heavy on the cheese. I guess it helps warm you up after a cold day out.

DiploBaby had the macaroni with bolognese sauce topped with lots of cheese. The children’s serving here look like they are for a normal adult. He enjoyed it but needed help finishing it.

Our friend L enjoyed her Rosti Chicken Burger. Instead of bread buns, they use Rosti, which is fried shreded potatoe. Think of hashbrowns.

For dessert we really enjoyed the coffee break which is a scoop of coffee ice cream, meringue with double cream, a Nespresso coffee & little bonbon. The perfect sweet treat to wake you up after a big meal.

After the meal, we just crossed the street to get to the car park. So convenient!

It was too hot for DiploBaby to put on his ski suit. That’s why we always have to bring an extra jacket for this warm kid. He really prefers his Uniqlo Ultra Light Down Jacket when he isn’t skiing or sledding. He finds other jackets too heavy. I don’t blame him.

DINNER DECEMBER 2021
A little more than a year ago we were sledding in St. Cergue till evening, so we also ate at Maison de Ville with my mother- and father-in-law.

The rustic decor, super old fireplace was very charming & legit cowbells were very charming!

TD had the cheapest fondue that allowed only 1 person to eat. Some of the fondue is minimimum of 2 people to be served and the price is always per person so you have to multiply it by 2.

He enjoyed it but having it with just bread and cheese can be a bit plain and nakakasawa. I think that’s why others would order a cold cuts platter to break the monotony.

The MIL & I ordered a Croûtes Au fromage each… but boy was it too much. We should have just split one. I think we ended up eating one and taking one home.

My FIL wasn’t very impressed with his steak. But then again he is rarely impressed with his food.

DiploBaby really enjoyed his chicken & fries. We didn’t know that we could have asked for only 6 pieces instead of 9 chicken nuggets. It’s okay though because we took it home & he enjoyed having it the next day.

So if you are in St. Cergue, this is a place that you can enjoy a hearty Swiss fare to warm you up after a cold day out. Have you eaten anywhere else in St. Cergue? Do you recommend it? I would love to know!
