Filipinos are known for their sweet tooth. In fact expats or foreigners usually complain that our bread and spaghetti are sweet. So it’s not surprising that there are a lot places to buy delicious cakes and treats. For TD’s birthday, I ordered the CHOCOLATE TRUFFLE CAKE of Tilde and we were so delighted with it that it definitely deserved its own blog post.

PACKAGING
Tilde packages their cakes really well so they don’t move inside the box. It’s so clever! We’ve ordered from them several times & the cake has always arrived in one piece because of their mindful packaging.

THE TASTE
This is a classic chocolate cake perfect for birthdays. Bu,t unlike the more traditional Filipino chocolate cakes which are super dense and super rich, Tilde’s CHOCOLATE TRUFFLE CAKE is sooo light yet deliciously dar & not too sweet.

It has layers of whipped truffle cream & topped off with a dusting of cocoa powder. Hindi siya nakakasawa (You won’t get sick of it) coz of how light it is.

THE DIY STAND
I seem to be missing my cake stand so this is my DIY cake stand: 1 big bowl + 1 shallow bowl inverted.

Ta-daa!

Then we just place the cake on top!

CAKE SLICER + SERVER
I’ve looked far & wide for a cake server that would make cutting cakes easier & more convenient and I finally found the WMF Nuova 2-piece cake knife & cake server. One helps you cut & then you can serve it while the knife prevents it from falling off. You can also get in the USA here.

The super-light whipped chocolate layers are in between fluffy, airy layers of sponge cake. That’s why you can eat more than one slice of this cake!

We’ve also had their Strawberry Shortcake, & Pistachio Sansrival, but we always come back to our favorite chocolate cake in Manila!
