How to Eliminate Bed Bugs with Allercon

March 17, 2013

One thing that I haven’t been able to live without since getting posted to Jakarta is Allercon Dust Mite Spray. It is regularly sprayed on our bed every few days and I bring a small bottle of it whenever we travel because you never know which hotels have them, especially when we are on a budget trip.

This is the brand I use, which I’ve found in Rustans Fresh Supermarket Rockwell and Shangr-la Mall. I usually ask the staff to help me locate it and I have to ask for the brand because if I just say bed bug spray, they might not know what it is. Sometimes I show them a picture. I like that it is natural and the smell is not very strong. It’s also quite cheap. Somewhere between the Php 100-200 range for a large bottle. The problem with dust in my Jakarta home is severe and so is my allergic reaction to dust and dust mites. If a table is wiped in the morning, by afternoon there will be a thin layer of dust. So bedbugs/dustmites is a definite problem.

I’ve also tried Bed Bugs No More (also from Rustans Fresh Supermarket) but I had an allergic reaction to it. It has a a very strong cinnamon smell. I have asthma and am allergic to almost everything at least mildly so I have to be very careful with what I use at home. Both products claim to be natural.

Before I found Allercon Dust Mite Spray, when I travel, I would bring a bed protector and pillow protectors. I would place them on the bed and then ask for new beddings. This kept the bed bugs from biting my back and face when I slept (if there was an infestation). TD is not allergic to bed bugs, and can wake up with red spots on my back and face the next day and he wouldn’t have anything except a good nights sleep. Sigh. Now that I have the spray, I don’t need to pack bulky beddings any more.

Are you also allergic to dust mites? What do you do to combat it? What products to you use? I’d love to hear from you!

*IMPORTANT NOTE: Before you try any of these products for your family, be sure to consult a doctor first and test to check if it causes an allergic reaction. I am just a satisfied user of this Allercon product, but what may be good for me, might not necessarily be the same for you.

Sorry it’s off the market because it wasn’t registered with our FDA. I bought a hand held Dyson vacuum cleaner using the bed tool to vacuum the dustmites out of my bed without having to use any chemicals.
