PISA TRAVEL DIARIES: Eat Like a Local in this Trattoria

June 10, 2015

When we travel we prefer to find places where locals eat. This is easier for us in Italy because my husband TD (The Diplomat) speaks Spanish and can understand and be understood by the Italians. So on our visit to Tuscany we were able to eat in places which weren’t tourist traps and totally surrounded by locals.

Leopolda Stazione di Ristoro

We were looking for dinner the day we arrived in Pisa and headed to this Trattoria. We loved ever bit of it. It’s fuss free but the staff was this lovely couple.

Don’t you just love places that prepare their food from whatever ingredients are fresh that day and hand write their menus? We loved super local trattorias like this during our trip!

The space is small and we were surprised to be the only people there considering how much we liked this Trattoria!

I treated myself to half a glass of good wine which was perfect with our meal.

While waiting for the food we were talking to the staff and also enjoying the bread and bruschetta with this cool book that showed us what food items are called in Italian.

We started with the Tartara di Chianini con Fantasia di Verdura was so delicious with this amazing Olio D.O.P Chianti Classico. If I get the chance, I hope I can buy a bottle of this to take home. It was soooo good! I’m not a rare steak or meat kind of person, but it’s the only way to have it in Tuscany which is known for the Steak Florentine.

Of course we had to have Risotto. This Risotto Zucca e Gorgonzola was really simple but yummy!

The perfectly cooked Polpo Arrostito con Fagioli Cannellini was tender and smokey just the way octopus should be!

Dessert was this yummy strawberry and cream creation.

The food was simple yet made with very good ingredients and we were so happy with every bite. I highly recommend this place!
