After the lovely dinner we had at Asian Fashion Law’s the night before (future post on the yummy home-cooked meal!) wherein we were talking about how Filipinos in Jakarta are so crazy about pork that the mere whisper of pork gets us all hot and bothered. Haha! It was no surprise that the next day TD and I were definitely craving for… you guessed it… PORK! So TD did some research and found that there was a resto that served pork in the mall we were going to, Plaza Senayan. Pictures of what we had after the jump!
We had to try the Xiao Long Bao and compare them with the Xiao Long Bao in Crystal Jade and Din Tai Fung. I know Din Tai Fung is supposed to be the best Xiao Long Bao in the world, but that may apply for HK and other locations where they make it with pork but for chicken Xiao Long Bao in Jakarta, the Crystal Jade Xiao Long Bao reigns supreme over the Din Tai Fung Xia Long Bao, because of how it melts in your mouth like butter. So here is the verdict on Paradise Dynasty’s Xiao Long Bao…
- Ginseng/chicken, garlic/pork and black truffle pork – these are the ones I would order next time I came back. Because they don’t have this in Crystal Jade and the flavors are interesting. I would say these are equal to the Crytal Jade chicken xiao long boa but have interesting flavors.
- Steamed shanghai dumpling /pork + chicken – not as great as Crystal Jade. Like the Din tai Fun Xia Long boa it doesn’t melt in your mouth like butter. I wouldn’t order this again.
- We didn’t particularly like the szechuan/pork, crab roe/pork and foie gras/pork. And the cheesy/chicken was even hard to swallow. =( Definitely won’t be ordering these again.
If you are trying Paradise Dynasty for the first time I would recommend the sampler basket of Xiao Long Bao IDR 78,000 ++ so that you can try everything yourself. Taste is relative and what we dislike, you might actually like. It’s a great way to try everything before committing to ordering them in 6-piece orders.
The gyoza was awesome. And the crispy pork ribs with the La Mian noodles soup was lip-smackingly delicious! And we were also extremely happy with the special for that day, black truffle shrimp hakaw. OMG! That was so good! If they have it on the menu, you have to order it!
The black and white interior makes you feel like you are in a modern Chinese tea house. I love the gold tea pots they use to refill our hot chinese tea.
So to all my pork-eating (or pork-starved) friends, here’s another place you can go to! We are really enjoying all the great Chinese food in Jakarta. So glad we found this resto.
How about you? Have you eaten in Paradise Dynasty? Any recommendations for us to try next time? =)
P.S.
No wonder the food is good. It’s the Boga Group group, which also did Bakerzin, Ten Ten and Pepper Lunch.

Pork scarcity is one of the top reasons why I don’t like Jakarta. Thank you very much for sharing this, I’ll go to Plaza Senayan this weekend!
Hi Ailtje… thanks for your candor. I know what you mean! It’s one of my frustrations too! Even buying pork in the supermarket doesn’t guarantee good pork. I would love to hear from you on what you got to try and whether you recommend us to order them next time! Coz i’ll definitely be back. =)
oh wow i love everything I see here, i wanna try! :9 and look at that shrimp dumpling with black truffle!!!
interiors are amazing — especially the long Chinese medicine cabinet!
Hi Mom-Friday, it’s great to see you on my blog! Sorry I’ve been so busy… been an errant blogger haha! that truffle dumpling was amazing! Thanks for the comment sweety! =)
The colours have always put me off to be honest.. Are they really that good?? Been craving good pork latetely, so I may give this a try 😀
I say go for it! We were just there yesterday. The pork bone soup with crispy pork ribs are yummy. Get also the black truffle hakaw, sweet and sour pork and the garlic kangkung + fried rice. WOW. SO YUM!
