JAKARTA DRINKS: Come Buy Bubble Tea

November 7, 2012

The bubble tea phenomenon has had it’s second wave in Manila for quite some time now. There has been so many popping up in Jakarta too. Aside from that one time I was going to Ace Gandaria and was so thirsty I ended up having Chatime, I’ve never really been inspired to try the bubble tea places I’ve seen here. How can anything be appealing after trying out Serenitea or Happy Lemon’s Cocoa Rock Salt and Cheese? Until I saw Come Buy in Gandaria City Mall.

I am a sucker for minimalist and modern aesthetics… the clean lines of the kiosk just reeled me in. Oh. And the lack of a queue was highly appealing to me too! For a bubble tea kiosk (this isn’t a restaurant, but for simplicity’s sake it’s going under RESTO RAVES/ JAKARTA EATS) it sure looks posh and expensive. And the best thing about it, is that it isn’t expensive at all! They have 2 sizes, Regular and Large. The large sizes are IDR 20.000 to 22.000 while the regular sizes are IDR 3.000 less. So simple!

I also love that the menu simplifies things for me. One of the reasons I don’t end up buying bubble tea, is that a I am overwhelmed by the choices. Come Buy highlights their “TOP 10 DRINKS” and this made it simple. I usually go for bestsellers wherever I eat anyway.

Below the TOP 10, is the assortment of drinks. But it’s shown in such a way that shows you what you are ordering, instead of just reading the names. So choosing is based on what is visually appealing to you. The coffees are in one line, the juices in another, the milk teas, and so on.

After you’ve chosen your drink, you can choose the sweetness level and how much ice. I always just choose

  • 50% sweetness
  • Less ice

And it’s always worked for me. It’s not too sweet nor is it too cold or end up watery.

On our first time at Come Buy last weekend, I had their bestselling Bubble Milk Tea, and TD had the Lychee juice. Boy were they massive for IDR 21.000! I have to say it’s not the best bubble tea I’ve had, but I am definitely coming back for the juices and maybe the cold coffee drinks. The value for money is awesome and it’s a great way to quench my thirst and/or hunger when I am in a rush with all my errands.

Yesterday, I came back again when I had to exchange something in ACE.  I was hungry but I had to run around on my errands. Enter the Come Buy lychee juice. Despite not ordering it with extra toppings, there were still lychee jelly bits that hit the spot. I was satiated without having to take too much sugar. For those who want to be even healthier, you can have any of their drinks minus the sugar. Awesome!

Come Buy is a Taiwanese Bubble Tea company that can be found in many countries around the world, including the USA. It has newly opened in Gandaria City Mall Upper Ground Floor (same floor as Lotte Mart).

Come Buy can also be found in Emporium Mall, Fl. 2, Opposite Ta Wan Restaurant, North Jakarta, Jakarta

I can’t wait to go back and try their iced coffee drinks and more of their juices!

You are right.. they have very good service. From my experience in Gandaria. Thanks for telling me about their Kota Kasablanka Mall! Good to know that even there it’s friendly for English-speaking expats =P
