JAKARTA EATS: D’Cost Seafood

April 5, 2012

We found out about D’Cost from one of the managers of Blue Elephant Thai Restaurant Jakarta. Any mention of “super cheap” + “seafood” and we are so there! A cheap seafood resto right under our noses?!? HOW did we not know about this?!?

D’Cost Seafood Kemang

The area in front looks like a proper resto, the latter part looks more like a fast-food joint, and the outdoor area in the back has a pond and water feature. Not bad! This spicy but yummy meal deserved a coke and a bucket of rice –  yep that’s 3 orders for 3 pax!

Everything was yummy and cheap. The cumi goreng cabe garam (fried squid in chili salt) and udang saus telur asin (salted egg fried shrimp) were served in a bigger portions than the udang baker pedas (spicy grilled shrimp) and ikan gurame goreng (fried gurame). We were so hungry so we finished all this + another plate of spicy string beans. I am surprised to say that we all immensely enjoyed the kangkung with shrimp paste (usually TD hates shrimp paste or “bagoong”). I’d order the exact same stuff next time, but I’d ilke to try the crabs too!

Food for 2 hungry men and 1 hungry gal

When we came out of D’Cost stuffed and happy that’s when I realized how many motorcycles were parked outside. Parking is usually full so customers park in the next door building.

Snapshots of their menu

D’cost is a very popular seafood chain in Jakarta. This is a place frequented by locals. For those prices it’s a place that I’d definitely come back to for a cheap quick bite! I recommend knowing basic Bahasa for ordering. This isn’t for you if you are expecting ambiance, etc.

[…] D’Cost – this is practically a fast food chain, for seafood. Super cheap. […]
