MANILA EATS: Izakaya Kikufuji

October 19, 2012

This is our favorite place to eat Japanese in Manila. Not just because of the excellent quality and freshness of the food, but also because of the prices – it is cheap considering the quality. It has to be the best value for money Japanes restaurant that I’ve encountered so far. My friend Laura has been telling me about it for years and I always read kitchen renegade Erica Paredes’ tweets about it. So if you haven’t been, it’s definitely a MUST TRY.

The interiors are very simple. It’s a very casual place to dine in.

Our absolute favorite dishes to order are: Spicy Salmon Maki, Grilled Beef Cubes, Burger with Brown Japanese Curry Sauce and Grilled Gindara with Teriyaki sauce. OH. MY. GOD. My mouth is watering just thinking about it… The crunch of the spicy salmon maki… The grilled beef melting in your mouth like butter… and the fresh and perfectly cooked gindara with piping hot Japanese rice. *salivating*

Everything is perfect with ice cold draft beer! But there are tons of drinks to choose from.

We also love that after your meal, they give away draft beer coupons (depending on how much you spent) that you can use on your next visit. Also I love that they use fresh wasabi.Again this is not cheap as in Tokyo Tokyo… but for the quality and freshness, it is a great deal!

*TIPS:

  • If you can call for reservations on weekends because this place is always busy.
  • Parking is difficult so better to go with a driver.

What about you, have you tried Kikufuji Japanese Restaurant? What are your favorite dishes?
