Because our friend Benj was sweet enough to give us a homegrown organic green mango, TD & I were motivated to make a quick trip to the supermarket before leaving Manila. It was a fantastic idea to go to Rustans Supermarket Rockwell because it was a one-stop shop & they even boxed & tied up everything properly for us – ready for check-in! Here are the things we thought of bringing back with us to Jakarta.
Tied up & packed well by the Grocery packer
GOOD TO KNOW
- These are not necessarily healthy food. Just treats that we like to stock up on, for those days when we miss the taste of home! Purefoods Cornedbeef is actually treasured here!
- We also brought a few toiletries & supplies that we don’t find in Jakarta, but if you do know where to find similar substitutes of these items in Jakarta please give me a shout-out in the comments section! You will have my undying gratitude!
CEBU’S PREMIUM DRIED MANGOES
Growing up and having a crazy amounts of fresh mangoes in the province, I am a bit of a mango snob. I hate dried mangoes, but since we are deprived of Philippine mangoes I finally found a brand that I like! Yay!
BOY BAWANG
A popular cornick or chichacorn brand in the Philippines that has the most garlicky & salty taste! They have similar corn snacks here in Indonesia but Pinoys are really into that strong garlic flavor. The key is for everyone to eat it so everybody has garlic breath haha!
POLVORON / CHEF TONY’S GOURMET POPCORN
The favorite brand of Polvoron (a popular pasalubong or gift from Filipinos who are coming from the Philipines) is usually Goldilocks but House of Polvoron or HOP, which you can find in supermarkets, is a less sweet alternative. Usually Pinoys will go for the sweeter stuff.
OMG, Chef Tony’s Gourmet Popcorn is a sinful and addictive snack.
LUCKY ME INSTANT PANCIT CANTON
This is the Pinoy version of Indomie Instant Mie Goreng of Indonesia. It’s just as popular. My favorite is the calamansi (local lime in the Philippines) flavor and the chili mansi flavor (lime + chili).
GRAHAM CRACKERS
Locally produced MY San Graham crackers is crazy cheap, this box I think was about 4 USD. Graham is amazing for desserts like No-Bake Blueberry Cheesecake or for the popular Pinoy Mango Float.
