Mad Hungry Shrimp Scampi

March 19, 2011

Just wanna share the lovely lunch we had. This was done by my helper who I’ve been training on the art of mise en place and how to follow a recipe book. I am soooo proud of her! She didn’t know how too cook before  coming to Jakarta because she is originally a cleaning and laundry lady but now she can do many of the dishes I’ve taught her and now bakes too! =)

We then topped it  off with some truffle oil and grated Grana Padano cheese (not pictured) then proceeded to (almost) polish it off! =D It also has a nice mild spicy kick to it!

You can find the Shrimp Scampi recipe in Mad Hungy: Feeding Men & Boys (Artisan Books) by Lucinda Scala Quinn which is my current favorite cookbook! Worth the month I waited for delivery! Thanks to Jackie for recommending it to me!

I will be featuring her recipe for Apple Crisps this month with permission to publish the recipe from Lucinda Scala Quinn herself. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is just starting to cook. Lucinda Scala Quinn makes it so easy!

Happy weekend everyone!

Oooh, looks scrumptious!! You taught your own helper to cook?? I had to send mine to cooking class. I am a lousy cook.

Yes! I was learning myself so I just taught her how to cook each dish that I did. I learn it first then I have her cook it 2-3 times to practice until she can do it by herself. But it’s even better now that she is learning how to read a recipe!!! Mise en place is the best concept EVER… I’m not a good teacher because I am stricta =P (OC!) but it’s rewarding when they can do it on their own!

Wow, that is amazing that your helper now can cook and bake! That makes your life so much easier, doesn’t it? I wish my helper can cook as well… She learned a few things, but she’s much older and have never cooked. But, she’s a great help in a kitchen which I appreciate a lot. BTW, I went to ACE at Gandaria City on Friday and bought the aluminum lamp!! Thanks so much for the information!! I love it although it is heavy! I got the smaller size, but it’s still pretty big! I cannot imagine how big the other one would look inside the house. I couldn’t even lift the bigger lamp, so it wasn’t even my choice. Thanks so much for the info!!!

Yaaay! I’m so happy you finally got one! For some reason I thought you already had one at home! I think I saw it in one of your pictures but I maybe it wasn’t your house? =) I also got these brass-looking floor lamp that was a steal at only Rp400k. Hope to post pics when I get back fro Manila!

It took a lot of patience and practice with my maid. But I was really determined because she has to be able to cook on her own especially when I have a baby (hopefully by next year) so I can focus on taking care of the baby! Also one of the things I promised her was that she would learn more skills while working with me =)
