Pasar Rawa Bening Accessories

March 15, 2011

As promised in my previous post on Gemstone Shopping at Pasar Rawa Bening here are pictures of my accessory shopping loot. Good thing we didn’t stay long or this post would be much longer – LOL!

Bangle from Korea bought from Pasar Rawa Bening

Bangle made in Korea. It’s definitely a statement piece that would look good with an all-white ensemble.Rings from Gemstone Market Pasar Rawa Bening

I love bling rings! These are all fancy of course.Rings from Gemstone Market Pasar Rawa Bening

Gold ring Rp 50,000 (5 USD) Sorry, I know it looks weird but I was running out of ideas on how to style the rings! =P

Stainless steel ring with cubic zirconia stones

I was also looking for pearls (not the expensive South Sea kind mind you!) a short choker with bigger pearls and a long one for the beach.

TIP:

To check if the pearls are real or plastic, the first indicator is the weight. If it’s light then it’s plastic. Next thing to check is the surface texture. You can do this by “biting” the pearl…if your teeth slip then it’s most likely plastic. If there is a chalk board texture to the pearl that prevents your teeth from slipping then it’s a real pearl. The pearls may be real but it can still be affordable because they’re freshwater pearls which are not as expensive as Akoya saltwater pearls and South Sea pearls.

  • Click here for pictures of the difference between freshwater and Akoya saltwater pearls.

Choker was made of 1 strand of freshwater pearls.

Pearl Necklace from Gemstone Market Pasar Rawa Bening

Long pearl necklace which can be used long or doubled around the neck as a choker.

I basically spent a total of Rp 400,000 (40 USD) for 5 statement pieces that I absolutely adore! Not bad if I may say so myself! If I had gone shopping in the mall I might only have been able to buy 1 or 2 items with the said amount! But you just have to be willing to go through tons of traffic and a smoke filled mall. I have asthma and it’s not a pleasant thing… what I will go through for the sake of a bargain! =P

Tomorrow I’m posting pictures of our adventures during our quest for lunch. You wouldn’t believe where we ended up!! So much fun with the Adventure Gang: Ambeth Ocampo, Tita Noreen and Maam T and Mr. J! =)
