I have a new food obsession that I can’t stop thinking about since I tried it 2 weeks ago. The Baos of Bao Kitchen are so delicious and I can thank my friend and fellow Diplo Wife, Michele, who messaged me all the way from Jakarta to look for her friend Tom’s stall in Markthalle Neun’s Street Food Thursday. Isn’t the world so small and wonderful that my Taiwanese friend, married to an American diplomat can send me a link to her friend’s brother’s food stall in Berlin? Foodies that we are, we headed to Markthalle Neun the very next Saturday, only to find that different stalls sell on different days. But we were back the very next Thursday to line up for Bao Kitchen.
Only at Street Food Thursday: Taiwanese Gua Baos
For our first time, TD and I decided to share one The ORIGINAL Bao so we would also have room for other bites of Street Food Thursday. By the time we were got our orders, the line of Bao Kitchen was already snaking around coz it was so long. It moves really fast though. Normally I wouldn’t line up in Manila or in Jakarta but lines in Berlin move FAST. #LoveIt!
They prepared our order fresh and in no time at all we were staring into our beloved Bao.
Between TD and me, we wiped-out the Bao in a few bites, it was so delicious. Make sure to bring or ask for extra tissue because the juicy pork was running down our hands. These Taiwanese Burgers rock… the tasty and succulent pork mixed with the flavors of the sauce, peanuts and coriander makes for a taste-splosion in your mouth. TD is not fond of coriander, but this is one of the exceptions to his rule haha!
I came back later when Bao Kitchen finished all their Baos for the evening so I could ask Tom for a picture. Proof that we went all the way to Markthalle Neun in search of yummy Taiwanese Burgers. Thanks again to my friend Michele for the recommendation! I will forever be grateful. I can’t wait for my next visit to Bao Kitchen!
At Bao Kitchen we’re all about Taiwanese-style “gua baos” or simply put baos. What are baos? Originally a street food staple, consider them Taiwan’s answer to the burger (we jokingly refer to our products as Bao Burgers). They’re delectably light and fluffy steamed buns that can be served up with a variety of scrumptious fillings and toppings. Each week we offer a selection of our mouth-watering baos at different spots throughout Berlin. From traditional flavors to updated versions with a twist, our baos are light, fresh and delicious. Tasty Taiwan // Finding the flavours of my homeland in Berlin
By any chance, do they have stall in Dublin? I shall love to try it (and pork, yay!!).
Unfortunately no. They only have a Thursday stall here in Berlin so it’s quite hard to get my fill of them Taiwanese pork burgers!
