JAKARTA EATS: Pearl Chinese Brunch Buffet

November 6, 2010

Happy weekend everyone! It’s a very busy weekend for us. Brunch at Koi (again), shopping, Jakarta Kulinary festival, then tennis and dinner tonight with some wedding gift wrapping (hands don’t fail me now!) – just for today! And tomorrow we are attending a wedding for the very first time. It’s going to be the second Muslim wedding ceremony I’ve ever attended (the first when I was like 10 years old) so I am excited to see their customs and traditions here. We’ve been asked to come in our national dress so that’s a production in itself!

To celebrate the weekend and perhaps to inspire some of you for what to do tomorrow, I am writing about the Sunday Chinese brunch buffet at JW Marriott’s Pearl Restaurant. (You recall that this is where I had Chinese cooking class and attended the mooncake-making?) Yummy food pics and details after the jump!

Peking Duck wrap

Pecking duck

Hubby and I have wanted to try it for so long now because we miss having dimsum and they have PORK on the menu! (YAY!) It also doesn’t hurt that it’s only about Rp 158,000++ or about 18 USD  – niiiiice! So last Sunday we finally got together with our fab friend Ted to check it out!

The Buffet

They have an extensive buffet of soups, appetizers and desserts. Some choice pictures below.

Peking Duck

The server was nice enough to make me a batch of wraps that were all just duck skin!

Dessert buffet with their famous mooncakes

Dessert buffet with their famous mooncakes. My favorite the chocolate mooncake (made with LINDT PREMIUM CHOCOLATE) is the one at the bottom right corner!

The Drinks

If you add Rp 180,000 you can have unlimited wine and beer. Add 50,000 for free flowing soft drinks. Add 40,000 for free flowing hot tea. I personally think that tea was perfect for this brunch.

The A La Carte Menu

Dimsum and entrées are ordered from a menu! I like this idea, because the food comes out from the kitchen fresh and hot! You can keep on ordering as you finish them.

Let the chow down begin! We definitely over-ordered for 3 people. LOL!
shark's fin soup

A special treat from the chef: Shark's fin soup!

Now this soup isn’t part of the brunch buffet, but Master Chef John wanted to prepare something special for our table. Isn’t he just lovely? What a treat!

Food highlights!

I didn’t really take note of the names so I just wrote down what I could remember. Would love to find out the correct names @JWMarriottJkt! And feel free to correct me if I got anything wrong!

Sweet and sour pork

Aaaaaand more pork! Sweet and sour pork (TD's favorite dish of the meal)

The icing on the (moon)cake! This chocolate mooncake is absolutely fantastic even for non-mooncake lovers like me! I think Marriott mooncakes have converted me. Seriously.

These dishes were so yummy! I love that presentation is always exquisite here at Pearl Restaurant. Yummy contemporary Cantonese cuisine and great value for your money!

My husband was already asking me last night to set our next Sunday brunch at Marriott – after a mere week! He said he really loves this buffet! I am sure if we didn’t have a wedding to attend this Sunday we would be having chinese brunch again!
