My co-admin in DeclutterMNL, Ging, is one talented lady! Not only is she a architect, business owner, super mama & home organizer, but she is also an amazing artist.
During the pandemic she started doing portraits for people in exchange for a pledge of a good deed! I remember thinking what a beautiful idea! I pledged to treat our condominium staff – who got stuck in our building for a long time – to a yummy meal from Amber’s. Our building has really pulled together and united during this time… but I thought it’s nice to get a treat once in a while, especially our favorite pancit and bbq combo. It’s not just for special occasions but also to say thank you to those who make our daily lives better in every way!
In exchange, Ging sent me this portrait of DiploBaby which I cherish!
This also became and extra source for Ging’s family during the pandemic! The wonderful thing is that it’s digital so it’s easy to order and send, especially nowadays when we want to limit contact.
Ging and her friends, Kate and Marose, then established Art for Good to raise more than Php200,000 to help the family of Dra. Kharen Senen, who bravely fought against COVID-19. May she rest in peace.
Now they are using their talents to raise funds for their chosen program. They recently raised Php 17,000 for the Typhoon Ulysses victims through orders of their gift tags and art prints.
THE GIFT OF PORTRAITS
I feel so lucky to be the recipient of such a wonderful gift from Ging! The light & airy feel of her portraits totally go with my #minimaluxe style! I really wanted to have a family portrait with DiploDog who is 13years old now, and be able to print it for gift tags too!
I sent her these 2 photos that were taken by Rebecca Van Ommen the amazing team of Paper Boat Creative. (They do luxury family portraits!) And I asked her to choose which one she thought would be the best. You all know how hard it is to take a good pic with a toddler and these were the only ones where we could see DiploBaby’s face!
And we received this wonderful digital portrait! I seriously got teary when I saw it! I can’t wait to have it printed to a 18”x24” size and surprise my hubby with a canvas print for Christmas!!!
We also got a notecard and gift card printables! I got teary-eyed again when I saw them! (I was just so happy & delighted!) This is really perfect for us since as a diplomat’s wife, I always have to have gift cards and notecards ready for hostess gifts, etc.
It’s the perfect sustainable gift because it’s sent digitally. Ging can still squeeze in 2-3 orders for guaranteed Christmas delivery, but you can also give instead a portrait voucher instead so the gift recipient can choose their own photo to use. Any recipient will be so thrilled!

During this Pandemic, it’s so hard to go out & shop… and it’s also really put things into perspective so giving meaningful gifts & memories that people will hold on to happily, instead of the cheapest gifts that might just clutter other peoples homes is so important.
With the stronger and stronger super typhoons, we also know that we need to hold back on all the useless plastic gifts that are easily broken or may just end up in the landfills. Hope this gave you an idea for a more sustainable less wasteful or #zerowastegift!
