You guys I finally found a teabox big enough for my tea stash ( slash addiction)! YAY! You would not believe where I found it! =P
I was visiting my friend Kaho of Chuzai Living and we were invited to have lunch at an American-Vietnamese lady’s house and after a yummy meal of Fresh Vietnamese Spring Rolls and Nuoc Cham dipping sauce (Recipe to follow on a separate post!) she offered us tea in a beautiful bamboo tea box and I couldn’t help but ask her where she got it! She said it was from the US and she had an extra box that she was willing to sell to me for USD 20! Wow I was floored! Of course the only answer to that was, “I’ll take it!” =D Best thing about it is that it’s Bamboo which has natural antibacterial properties. Yay.
Note: Tea that is not in individual foil packets will not keep fresh for very long in a teabox. They should be stored in air tight container in a cool and dark place.
Below is the picture of the box closed.
I also want to share with you the glass jars I got from Ubud Bali with mother of pearl lids. (Email me if you wanna know the name of the store. I have to look for the name card! But it’s one of my favorite stores in Bali because it has amazing stuff and the prices are quite reasonable.)
I thought they were a beautiful way to display my loose tea and teabags that didn’t have individual foil packets (which keep them fresh). For the loose tea, I also stuck in a small spoon (also made of bamboo wood) which I purchased from ACE Gandaria (or was it Pasaraya).
I love serving guests tea using my new teabox. What do you think? For many more ideas on how to store or display tea click here!
Hi DW!
I am glad I stumbled upon your blog this morning. I am a tea addicted victim and have many of them. Would you give me info on the shop selling glass jar with mother of pearl lid in Ubud? Also the lady who sold the bamboo tea box, she might have another one to sell 😉
Thanks for such a wonderful and well informed blog….
Hi Ingrid, I wish I could help you out, but with the move and all, i don’t know where to find the calling cards. I am always losing stuff during moves! Especially the small items! All I remember is that the shop was on the monkey forest road. There are many many lovely shops there, and I just went in the home decor/gift shops that struck my fancy. Regarding the lady with the tea box, she was a diplowife of an American diplomat who just happened to have 2 pieces of the same box and didn’t need the other one. She’s already left Jakarta. You can always have Danni my furniture maker make you a tea box our of teak. Just show him this picture and he can copy it for you. You can find his contact information here.
