BALI BITES: Chocolate Cafe

November 10, 2011

Our friends tried this dessert bar before us and it’s been something we’ve taken guests to ever since. It’s nice to go as a group and try the different yummy desserts. The warm and inviting ambiance makes me think “chocolate.”   Check out the photos after the jump.

I wasn’t able to taste everything but my favorites are the chocolate mousse (a must for any choco lover), blueberry cheesecake and the lemon meringue (so tart!). But the best for me is the chocolate mousse – the one with the bite below hehe.

I always appreciate it when the restaurant owners greet their customers personally. Belgian Chef and Restaurateur Yehudi Van Meckeren came over and we had a lovely chat with him. I feel this personal touch always makes a restaurant visit memorable. My photo below doesn’t do the handsome chef justice.

I couldn’t help but notice this amazing photo on the wall. Just beautiful. There are more of these beautiful photos all over the cafe.

There were also goodies that could be taken home. We got some meringue Rp 5,000, brown baguette Rp 17,000 and Belgian Chocolate honeycomb Rp 17,000. *Prices mentioned are tax /SC exclusive and are not exact but only from memory. The meringue was average and doesn’t hold a candle to the chocolate meringue of Gaya Gelato. (best gelato in Bali – but that’s for a different post!)

I loved the Belgian chocolate honeycomb. Perfect with tea. I have a super sweet tooth (typically pinoy) so this might be too sweet for some people, but for me and TD it was perfect.

I also loved the brown baguette with butter! MmmMmmm… my mouth is watering thinking about it.

Chocolate Bar is beside Topeng Restaurant & Bar which is also owned by Chef Yehudi. Maybe next time we can try it out! If the desserts are any indication, then it’s going to be good!  Check out the bamboo enclosed seating – so cool and unique!

If you’ve tried any of these 2 restaurants I would love to hear your thoughts and recommendations!

Meringue! Brings back childhood memories. My mom used to buy meringue stored in blue cans the size of a formula milk can, I wonder if it’s still being sold.

Wow! I didn’t know that they sold that before! Wow that’s an entire can of pure sugar yumminess! LOL! Would she let you have it often?!? I bet you got super hyper after!
