A schloss is a palace or a castle and there are many in Germany. Some are modest, yet some are grand. One of the grandest I’ve seen is Schloss Seehof which is in South Germany. Because it is in Memmelsdorf in Franconian Tuscany, or right in front of Bamberg, we drop by before heading home to Berlin from Bamberg. We walked around enjoy the sun, the gardens and the water cascades. They have tours inside the beautiful rooms for a small cost (I can’t recall if it was 4 or 8 Euros per person) and it is scheduled every hour or so. I will have to come back for sure.
Honestly from a far, I wasn’t so impressed, until we got nearer and I realised how massive it was. It makes me think of Downton Abbey, so I absolutely loved it.
Below is a picture of the gate from the Schloss. To the right is where the restaurant is located, covered by the trees.
To go to the palace you walk underneath these lovely trees.
When we inquired about the tour they showed us photos of one of the magnificent rooms inside that we would be shown and it was really quite breathtaking. Unfortunately photo taking inside is not allowed, but I will be back if only to see that ballroom with my own eyes.
To me castles and palaces are exotic because we don’t really have these in Asia. So being in a castle feels like I am in a movie or TV show and I am amazed at how well-preserved structures are in Europe. I feel very fortunate indeed to be here and we try to save and travel as much as we can. Travel and seeing the world or historical places is an education you cannot get in a classroom. And travel changes us indelibly. I get so much living and design inspiration from travel.
I hope you enjoyed the pictures I took of Schloss Seehof! There is no entrance fee to the grounds of Schloss Seehof. Only if you decide to take a guided tour inside. Call ahead to check on daily schedule of tours.
