Yogyakarta Spa Pedicure

March 22, 2011

I usually get a pedicure before I go on a trip but since I was sick prior to leaving for Jogja, I didn’t get to. Ack. And my polish was peeling off. I should have at least taken off the polish before I left. I guess I really wasn’t feeling well because it didn’t even occur to me to do so. So when I arrived in Yogya it was a choice of looking for a salon (but I am not guaranteed of how clean the utensils will be) or paying big bucks at the hotel spa. Better to be safe than sorry (with a toe infection!) so I decided on the 75minute Spa Pedicure (Rp 290,000) at My Spa of Phoenix hotel. Normally I wouldn’t pay that much but with the massage and mask I consoled myself that it was value for money. Was it worth it?

I usually get pedicures once every 2 or 3 weeks in Jakarta for Rp 120,000 (12 USD) which is expensive for Manila standards. In Manila I usually get a mani pedi with soak and massage for only P180 (4 USD).

I was served with hot ginger tea and a refreshing cool lemon grass scented towel when I entered for my appointment. I loved the way they served it!

I had the room to myself. I started with a soak, scrubbing, clipping and cleaning of my tootsies. The attendant was very thorough and always ensuring I was comfortable with my position, the temperature of the room, etc. Again much attention to details.

After the massage which was heavenly (perfect pressure as always here in Indonesia!) I got a peppermint mask. It was lovely! And despite my big Sate Buffet dinner I was served water and sweet fruits! How can I say no?

I came out with my legs looking super white and my toes looking much better. (They were gnarly I tell you!) I don’t have the best looking feet so it’s important they they are always clean and well groomed.

Most of the nail polish was reddish in tone (it’s so popular in most of the nail salons here I guess it’s a favorite color) so I was glad to find a pink shade because I cannot pull-off red. It’s just not me. I had her do it in one coat so that the color remained light.

And the feeling of having well-groomed feet with the great service and relaxation it provided was money well spent. I was also happy I got to try their spa! =) I highly recommend getting a massage when you are in Indonesia. They are so talented in the art of massage! My frustration in the Philippines is not all of the masseuses can exert great pressure, however that’s never been a problem here.

That spa looks really nice! I hear you the price. I thought that Rp. 120,000 was cheap, but in Manila standard, it’s not?? Only $4 for pedi? Would love to get pedicure done in Manila. My feet are gnarly, so I need to get pedicure done. Sigh. Kaho

In Manila for 12usd you get a mani pedi at an upscale place like Dashing Diva (you can search for my post on it on my blog) with soak, scrub and massage using all Dashing Diva products! It was my treat to myself before… now with 12usd I get a basic pedi in Jakarta =( I also have gnarly feet so I don’t know how you were able to do it in the US! I am sure it’s very expensive there as well?

we got pedicure with parafin wax. in india for 200-600 rupees.they do massage, scrub, kind of foot reflexology then instead of the pack, they melt theparaffin wax and cool it down then apply on thefeet just like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8g3lQUlz48.

in singapore the express pedicure is 24 dollars and french pedicure is 40++ Sing dollars. so i wait for an year to get a good treat to my feet. meanwhile i got myself the watson foot spa massager and i got the parlour cuticle repair cream and they normally apply it over my bare cuticle and nail and scrub it off after soaking in lukewarm lemon water.

then i got the bodyshop peppermint pack for the feet and use the shower cap and apply it overnight when i find time.

Or i get the pedicure, rebonding all done when i go to malayisa because it is half the price there than in Singapore.
