Potluck and Lechon Party

February 17, 2011

So this year when our friend C asked when we should have our post-Christmas get-together we said we wouldn’t mind having it on V-day! Good thing our friends agreed – turns out some of them don’t celebrate Valentines either! (Birds of a feather!) I can’t think of a better way to spend Valentines than catching up with friends old and new and stuffing our faces with crispy lechon skin!  (Heaven!)

I noticed with some relief that traffic is not as bad here in Jakarta as it is in Manila on Valentines. And it’s not as commercialized (Thank God!) since not everyone believes in Valentines anyway. In Manila we don’t even bother going out because you’ll just get stuck on the road!

Having a laugh

Didn’t get to take a picture of all the dishes I think I was fixated on on the desserts though! Hehe!

I brought my classic Banana Bread…

So where was the lechon? We arrived a bit late since we over shot the turn and got stuck in traffic exiting the tollway. So when we arrived the lechon had been partly inhaled! LOL! So I took a picture of the lechon at the end of the night… this was all that was left! =P It was amazingly delicious – my favorite dish in the whole world prepared to perfections.

(L) LOVE the kamagong liquor cabinet (R) the “buffet”

It was perfect that I saw this cabinet because I’ve been looking for design inspiration for our own liquor cabinet. Yay!

That is a beautifully decorated home! It is a total modern chic!! I saw the lamp that I wanted to buy!!!! I couldn’t find it anywhere when I was first looking for it. I didn’t know that the Philippinos are big on Valentine’s day! I think you are smart to not feeding into the marketing strategy that creates the craze over the day. I agree. It’s totally okay to celebrate the day on another day. Only if I could convince my husband to do that. I was lucky this year that he asked me out! We hadn’t gone out just by ourselves for a long time, so I just loved it! Thanks for sharing the photos. Your banana bread looks delicious!!
