I’ve been trying different brands since we arrived here because our bedroom is in the attic floor, which means it’s super warm in the summer.
To rapidly cool our space once the sun is down, it’s important to be able to open all our velux windows to let some cool air through the attic.
I tried spraying anti-insect spray around the Velux frames, but it only reduces the number of insects. At one point last year I had 50 mosquito bites on my whole body. Thank God there is no Dengue here! DiploBaby had 10 bites in one arm alone.
VELUX TULLE SCREENS
There are more fixed options for this but to install them would cost a fortune AND they would reduce the headspace of our already low attic space. So I needed something less rigit & permanent!
I was so desperate last year that I bought different types of velux screens. They are all made of TULLE.

I ended up trying the EASYLIFE brand on our bathroom velux window and here are the results:
- It totally doesn’t work because the zipper isn’t near enough to the window handles
- The sticky band kept falling because of the humidity inside the bathroom
- When it fell off it took some paint off with it – OUCH!
So I realized that none of the above would work because the zipper placements are way off AND I want minimum surface damage to our rental home.
TESA ROOF WINDOW FLY SCREEN

I didn’t even consider this solution before because for me it looked to untidy & blousy, but I realized that it’s the best solution because:
- No surface damage
- It’s easy to open & close the Velux windows with Tesa.
Now I think of it as a dreamy look instead of blousy. The best part is we can now sleep with a cooler space minus insects biting us, waking us up by going into our ears… or even going into our mouths!

This hack is not the cheapest, but it’s so worth every cent. I’m really happy! Getting better quality sleep is also so much better for my mental health.
