YOGYA BITES: Villa Hanis Belgian Chicken

October 13, 2013

Another favorite and unforgettable restaurant in Yogyakarta is Villa Hanis, especially their Belgian Chicken dish which my father-in-law ate every night during our stay in September 2010. Until this very day, he cannot forget that Belgian Chicken and he still compares every fried or roasted chicken to the one he had from Villa Hanis.

I agree with him that it’s really good. Perfectly crispy on the outside and tender inside and just bursting with flavour in every bite.

The pastas are pretty darn delicious too. The pesto with prawns is delicious and I can taste the quality of the fresh and organic herbs and vegetables that they use from their own farm.

Another thing we love to have in Villa Hanis is the dessert. My personal favorite is the Chocolate Torte, but their other selection is pretty delicious too. I am just biasted towards chocolate because I am a chocoholic.

Villa Hanis also has a bake shop and a store. I liked buying tea from them because I found flavours that weren’t easy to find in Jakarta. I also like to buy their reasonably priced decor and gifts.

They also sell dried herbs from their farm in big affordable bags.  The farm is the lovely view that you see when you dine there during the day.

Villa Hanis utilises indoor-outdoor design, typical of Yogya restos, so I recommend using insect repellent when you go.

This resto has more of a rustic feel, it is not upscale at all and you will have to watch out for the sign in the road and have to go down the driveway before you see the restaurant itself. I like the food and the quaint things they sell in their shop.

What is your favorite restaurant in Yogyakarta and what do you love to order. Tell me about it!

Hi Natalie, it’s nothing fancy but we love the belgian chicken and the chocolate torte! Don’t forget to try Ikan Bakar Jimbaran! That is our absolute favorite resto in Yogya. My other Must Dos in Yogya, is buying pure silk batik in Mirota Batik on Jalan Marlioboro and checking out paintings of local artists in Imam Gallery. Enjoy Yogyakarta!
